Six metres forward. Six metres back.
Our story began in Lithuania in 2022 with Inflamed, our Lithuanian manufacturing company and the workshop behind BAUWN.
We started with €20,000, convinced it would cover the machinery, materials and even leave something for marketing. It did not. After buying a brushing machine, essential tools and our first timber, almost nothing remained.
Fortunately, the first commercial order arrived almost immediately: 130 m² of charred timber for a project in Vilnius.
Back then, every board was charred by hand with a gas torch. With six-metre boards, the process became known in the workshop simply as ‘six forward, six back’ - a slow pass along the full length of the board, another all the way back, and then the process repeated on the reverse.
It was demanding, imperfect and incredibly slow.
But it taught us fire.
