Volume 01 in the BAUWN archive - the first project we delivered, and still the clearest demonstration of what an unbrushed carbon surface does beside traditional Dutch materials.
A thatched farmhouse in the province of Utrecht was reclad in KAEN Carbon charred larch: charred and left unbrushed, so the crackled carbon crust stays intact and reads almost black against the reed roof and the warm red brick.
Boards run vertically in a shadow gap profile with concealed fixings, wrapping the dormer and the deep window reveals, so the elevation reads as one continuous dark plane against the farmyard.
